In a Balkan country mending from years of conflict, Natalia, a young doctor, arrives on a mission of mercy at an orphanage by the sea. Secrets her outwardly cheerful hosts have chosen not to tell her. Secrets involving the strange family digging for something in the surrounding vineyards. Secrets hidden in the landscape itself.

Nelson Town Hall

Pot luck, followed by dancing with calling by Lisa Sieverts, music by Harvey Tolman, Gordon Peery, and probably a plethora of other musicians. At some point the dancing stops and people migrate to Center Pond for fireworks.

We will have the usual Knit & Crochet, Sewing, Christmas, Miscellaneous, Bake Sale & Jam & Jelly Tables, and the Cookie Walk.

New this year will be a silent auction of 5 items:

• wood-framed 15×24 water color of a hump back whale
• 4′ diameter wreath in purple hues;
• 54″ x 29″ double layered, fringed, fleece throw;
• hand embroidered pillow and pillow cases
• rose leaded crystal vase with an overlay of silver dragon flies.

Also new this year, a raffle of themed Christmas gift baskets. A light soup and sandwich lunch featuring chili, vegetable soup, corn chowder, and clam chowder will be available from l l AM on. The Tea & Dessert Table will be open at 9 AM.

This is the one fund raiser of the year which we do to finance our community projects. Proceeds will be used to help local families in times of crisis, purchase clothing for needy children, help fund educational trips for Munsonville and Stoddard school children, support mission trips, and help the Chapel buy heating oil.

The Monadnock Folklore Society brings this community event to the Nelson Town Hall each year, admission is $5, and treats are appreciated for the dessert potluck. This year the evening will begin with a holiday concert featuring a selection of traditional and original seasonal music; as part of the concert 2011 Johnny Trombly Scholarship recipient  will entertain us with their musicianship. The Folklore Society invites you to bring along your favorite holiday dessert and we’ll supply the beverages for the intermission. After the concert the chairs and benches are cleared to make way for a traditional New England Contradance. Unfortunately, or not, the dance is often interrupted by various groups of unsavory characters presenting their idea of seasonal entertainment. These diversions, sometimes involving costumed individuals making complete fools of themselves or performing ancient ritual dances to help us through this dark time of the year, are generally tolerated as once they are applauded and fed we can return to dancing the night away.

When:  Sunday afternoon, October 30th, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.

Who:  All the children in town (ages 0 to 13)

Where:  The Nelson Town Hall

Why:  to celebrate a ‘Spook-iful’ day in honor of Halloween

What:  costumes, spooky music, games, trick-or-treating in the Village, refreshments, too!

How much:  Just bring your ‘spooky’ self.  It’s free!

The 5th Annual Nelson School LIVE Auction will be on Saturday, April 28, tentatively beginning at 6:00 pm at the Nelson Town Hall.

Nelson’s own Chris Wallenstein, auctioneer, will emcee the event, donating his time and expertise once again.

The students and the staff of Nelson Elementary School sincerely hope you plan to attend this year’s event. We also thank the many residents of Nelson who have already donated so many items to ensure that the 5th Annual PTO Nelson School LIVE Auction is a mighty success!
